Jakia Sultana writes picture books for children between the ages of three and eight. Her stories are built around the situations that come up in ordinary family life — a child who wanders further than they were allowed, a small character who has to be brave, a night that needs winding down — and each one is written to be read aloud in a single sitting.
The books share a deliberate approach. Difficult subjects such as personal safety and stranger awareness are handled without frightening imagery, and stories resolve with the child character safe and understood rather than punished.
