Shape Fit — Free Online Shape Fitting Game for Kids

Shape Fit is a free online shape fitting game for children ages 3 to 8 — like a wooden shape sorter on a screen. Each picture is a set of empty outlines, and your child drags the colourful pieces into the holes they fit. Finish a picture and it comes to life: smoke puffs from the chimney, the caterpillar wiggles and the rocket blasts off. It plays in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download, no signup and no ads.

What's inside

  • 🏠 House
  • 🐛 Caterpillar
  • 🚀 Rocket
  • ⛵ Sailboat
  • 🍦 Ice Cream
  • 🦋 Butterfly

How to play Shape Fit

  1. 1Press Play. The House comes first; each picture after it is a little harder.
  2. 2Drag a coloured piece onto the outline it matches.
  3. 3If it fits, it clicks into place. If not, it goes back to the tray to try somewhere else.
  4. 4Look out for extra pieces — not every piece has a hole.
  5. 5Fill every outline to bring the picture to life, then move on to the next one, or tap any picture in the list to pick it.

What your child learns

  • Shape matching: each piece fits only the outline with the same shape
  • Size and orientation: later pictures mix look-alike pieces of different sizes and turned different ways
  • Problem solving: some pieces are decoys that don't fit anywhere
  • Symmetry: the butterfly's left and right wings have to match
  • Fine motor skills: picking up, dragging and dropping with care

Questions parents ask

Is Shape Fit free to play online?
Yes. Shape Fit is completely free, with no signup, no ads and no in-app purchases.
Can kids play the shape fitting game online without downloading?
Yes. It runs in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so there is nothing to download or install.
Is there a shape fitting game for kids to download?
There is no app to download — Shape Fit is a web game, which is why it is free and needs no account. On a phone or tablet you can still give it an app-style icon: open the game, tap your browser's Share or menu button, and choose "Add to Home Screen". It opens straight into the game from then on (it still needs an internet connection).
What age is the shape fitting game for?
Ages 3 to 8. The House has six pieces and no decoys, so it is a gentle start for three-year-olds; the later pictures add decoys, look-alike sizes and mirror-image pieces for five- to eight-year-olds. Toddlers can play with a grown-up helping them drag.
Is it a good shapes game for kindergarten?
Yes. It covers the shapes kindergarten children learn — circle, square, rectangle, triangle and star — and goes on to the ideas that come next: size, which way a shape is turned, and symmetry.
How is it like a real shape sorter toy?
It works the same way: find the hole a piece fits and push it in. The screen version adds pictures to build and pieces that come in different sizes and orientations. Playing both helps — the toy gives the feel of the shapes, the game gives the variety.
Is there a printable version?
Not yet, but a home version takes two minutes: trace around a few household objects — a cup, a book, a block, a lid — on paper, then ask your child to put each object back on its outline.
What is the difference between Shape Fit and Shape Matching?
Shape Fit is drag-and-drop: whole pieces go into the holes they fit. In Shape Matching your child draws lines dot to dot to finish shapes and match mirror halves. Try both — they practise different skills.
