How to use these stories
1. Read it twice
Young children love repetition. The second time through, pause before the best bits and let your child fill in the words.
2. Ask one question, not three
Each story has three questions to talk about. Pick the one that fits the moment: a short chat beats a quiz.
3. Link it to real life
When your child shares or helps later that day, name the story: โThat was just like Ella and her umbrella.โ
Questions parents ask
- What is a moral story for kids?
- A short story that ends with a lesson about how to treat people or make choices, such as kindness, sharing or being brave. For young children the lesson works best when a character shows it through what they do, rather than being told it at the end.
- How long should a story be for a 3 or 4 year old?
- Short is fine. Each story here takes under a minute to read aloud, which suits children aged 3 to 5. For a longer read at bedtime, try one of our picture books or free story book PDFs.
- Are these stories free?
- Yes. Every story, video and set of questions is free to read and watch, with no sign-up and no app.
- Can teachers use these stories in class?
- Yes. They suit circle time and early reading: read the story or play the video, then use the three questions under it to start a discussion.
Want a longer story?
Our illustrated picture books are made for bedtime, and four of them are free to download.
