Free · Ages 3–8 · No downloadShape Matching — Free Online Shape Game for Kids
Shape Matching is a free online shape game for children ages 3 to 8. Every shape starts part-drawn — your child drags the pencil from dot to dot to finish it, while a friendly voice names the shape and cheers them on. Later boards become mirror puzzles: one half of each picture is drawn, and your child matches it on the other side. It plays in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download, no signup and no ads.
What's inside
- 🔺 Triangle
- 🟧 Square
- 🏠 House
- ❤️ Heart
- 🪞 4 mirror boards
- ⭐ Star, crown, rocket & more
How to play Shape Matching
- 1Press Play. The first shape, a triangle, is already partly drawn.
- 2Put a finger (or the mouse) on the pencil and drag it to the next dot.
- 3Keep going dot to dot until the shape is closed. The voice names the shape and cheers when it's finished.
- 4On the mirror boards the right half of each picture is drawn — copy it on the left so both halves match.
- 5Stuck? After a few quiet seconds the guide comes back to show where to go. Tap any shape in the list to jump straight to it.
What your child learns
- Recognising and naming 2D shapes: triangle, square, heart, half-circle and star
- Pencil control: dragging along a line is the same movement as tracing on paper
- Symmetry: each mirror board asks for one half of a shape to match the other
- Following a path from a starting point — an early pre-writing skill
Questions parents ask
- Is this shape matching game free to play online?
- Yes. Shape Matching is completely free, with no signup, no ads and no in-app purchases — press Play and it starts.
- Can I play the shape matching game online without downloading?
- Yes. It runs in any modern web browser, so there is nothing to download or install, on a computer, tablet or phone.
- Is there a shape matching game for kids to download?
- There is no app to download — Shape Matching is a web game, which is why it is free and needs no account. On a phone or tablet you can still give it an app-style icon: open the game, tap your browser's Share or menu button, and choose "Add to Home Screen". It opens straight into the game from then on (it still needs an internet connection).
- Is there a free printable shape matching game?
- We don't have printable sheets yet, but the game copies easily onto paper. Draw a shape with one side missing and dots along the gap for your child to join. Or, for a mirror puzzle, fold a sheet in half, draw half a heart or a tree against the fold, and ask them to draw the matching half.
- Is it a good shape matching game for toddlers?
- It is designed for ages 3 to 8. The first shapes need only one or two lines, so a two-year-old can manage them with a grown-up guiding their finger. The mirror boards suit four- to six-year-olds best.
- Which 2D shapes does it teach?
- Triangle, square, heart and a house made of a square and a triangle, then half-circles, arrows, cups, trees, crowns, rockets, stars and wings on the mirror boards.
- Can adults play the shape matching game?
- Shape Matching is made for children ages 3 to 8, so it will feel gentle for a grown-up — there is no timer, score or difficult final level. It works best with an adult playing alongside a child: taking turns, talking about the shapes and celebrating each finished picture together.
- What is the difference between Shape Matching and Shape Fit?
- In Shape Matching your child draws lines to finish a shape. In Shape Fit they drag whole shape pieces into the holes they fit, like a shape sorter. Drawing builds pencil control; fitting builds spatial reasoning — the two work well together.
